FRISCO, Texas – McNeese’s James Tabary, Darion Dunn and Parker Orgeron are the Southland Conference Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. All weekly awards are presented by MidSouth Bank.Senior quarterback Tabary wins the offensive honor, sophomore cornerback Dunn secures the defensive award and junior punt returner Orgeron takes the special teams accolade after helping lead the Cowboys to a 51-34 win over Houston Baptist to start the conference season.They return to action Saturday for their home opener, hosting Nicholls at 6 p.m. CT.Offensive Player of the Week: James Tabary, McNeese – Sr. – Quarterback – New Orleans, La.The first team preseason All-Southland quarterback set a school record for most passing yards and touchdowns in a half when he put 329 yards and four scores en route to notching his school-record sixth 300-yard career passing game. The senior from New Orleans opened the first quarter completing 11-of-12 pass attempts and 22 of 27 in the opening half. Tabary finished the game with 355 passing yards on 25-of-32 passing. He also added a rushing touchdown.Honorable Mention: Shelton Eppler, Northwestern State; Lester Wells, Central Arkansas; Josh Fink, Abilene Christian.Defensive Player of the Week: Darion Dunn, McNeese – So. – Cornerback – Oakdale, La.The preseason All-Conference honoree intercepted two passes in Saturday’s win over HBU, marking the first time since 2014 that a McNeese player has intercepted more than one pass in a game. The sophomore cornerback from Oakdale, La., also led the team in tackles Saturday with five, all solo stops.Honorable Mention: Hayden Bourgeois, Northwestern State; Hunter Brown, Sam Houston State; Raphael Garner, Central Arkansas.Special Teams Player of the Week: Parker Orgeron, McNeese – Jr. – Punt Returner – Mandeville, La.Orgeron recorded McNeese’s first punt return for a touchdown since 2013 when he took a fourth quarter punt 59 yards to the house Saturday.
