Fear and Confusion Rock Nimba County

first_imgFear and confusion have rocked Nimba County in recent days over the gruesome killing of a man believed to be in his late 50s in the town of Duogorton in the Yarpea Administrative District.During a radio talk show following the confession of one of the alleged perpetrators, most of the callers expressed fear over the ghastly killing and called for harsh punishment for the killers to deter others.Most of the callers demanded the reintroduction of capital punishment, which means the execution of convicted murderers.On Friday, May 26, a man identified as Arthur A. Baymie was brutally murdered in Duogorton on his way from his farm.The man’s corps shows that he had been brutally attacked leaving several deep wounds to his body, including his head, neck, and shoulder before he was left to die.Officers of the Liberia National Police launched an investigation, arresting scores of citizens from the community. The nephew of the victim, identified as 39-year old Yarlo Dahn, finally confessed to masterminding the killing so he could take over his late father’s cocoa farm.Dahn told police that he hired his friend, one Josiah Quoi, to help him kill his uncle and promised to pay Quoi L$4,000 for his effort.Dahn also admitted to police investigators that he used a machete in the attack, after he had discussed the murder with his friend on the farm.Nimba County has several murder cases that are yet to be prosecuted to give affected families justice. In 2015, a motorcyclist was gruesomely murdered in Ganta, prompting riots that led to the destruction of lives and properties.In March this year, two persons were found dead in their apartment in Ganta.
